Captains Siobhán Bergin-Corri and Paul O'Callaghan arrived in style at The Heath Golf Club for the Captain's Drive-ln on two High Nellies and dressed in vintage clothing.


They were warmly welcomed by a large group of golfers, supporters and well-wishers. After a champagne reception and posing for photographs, the captains then teed off.


Members and guests competed in a 12-hole scramble competition and later retired to the club house where they enjoyed a lovely meal provided by Deirdre and her staff. A presentation of prizes followed the meal.


Captain Siobhán Bergin-Corri is a native of Killanure. She joined the Heath golf Club in 2001 after returning from Zimbabwe to live in Portlaoise. She was a member of Chapman Golf Club in Harare for many years and also a member of Kyalami Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa and Dar es Salaam golf club in Tanzania.
Golf highlights include being runner up in the Tanzanian Open Greensomes with her partner from Thailand, winning the Lady Captain’s (similar to the Lady President’s in Ireland) in Chapman Golf Club and winning the Lady President’s prize in the Heath in 2007.


She was Junior Convenor from 2008 to 2010 and served on the Ladies’ committee then. She is married to David from Dublin and has one daughter, Eimear. Other hobbies include music and heritage.


She is honoured to have been offered the opportunity to fulfil this role and is enjoying serving on Council and the Ladies committee.


Paul O’Callaghan is a native of Carrick-on-Suir. He has been a keen sportsman all his life, playing many sports including soccer with Carrick United in the Waterford League.
He represented Waterford Soccer League at Oscar Traynor and League of Ireland (B Level). He played hurling for Carrick Davins at club level and was a member of the Tipperary County team in 1975. He also played rugby with Carrick-on-Suir at Junior Level for a number of years.


Paul moved to Portlaoise in 1981 when he joined the Prison Service and was a member of the Prison Golf Society for many years and also Portlaoise Athletic Club where he won six County Senior Cross Country medals.


He has been a member of the Heath Golf Club for over 20 years. He is married to Betty who hails from Waterford City and they have three boys David, Eoin and Niall.
