Sizzling summer in Portlaoise at Dunamaise Arts Centre

Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise will be sizzling this summer with a sensational lineup of events.

Holy Family Senior School kickstart the summer programme with Annie, taking place from Wednesday, May 9 to Friday, May 11.

There will also be a wonderful variety of shows and events for children and families, including the Transmitter schools tour from Monday May 14 to Wednesday May 16, a screening of Peter Rabbit, two wonderful shows from Talisman Theatre, Lyngo Theatre’s  Tom Thumb, and screenings of Coco and Isle of Dogs.

A brand new endeavour to be launched at Dunamaise Arts Centre is a Summer Panto Camp

presented by Dressing Room 1, while Summer Saturdays will feature again on the calendar with workshops for kids and adults including illustration, stop-motion filmmaking and puppet making and embroidery.

Theatre will be strong this summer at Dunamaise and will feature productions by Laois Youth Theatre, Take off your Cornflakes starring Rose Henderson and Pat Nolan, Laois Fourth Wall Theatre Group, National Theatre Live and the Beezneez Theatre Group.

Toes will be tapping to the beat of wonderful music including Route 66: Big Band, Mick Hanly & Donal Lunny, The Classic Beatles, The Illegals and Niamh Kavanagh, The Guitar Stars, and the Laois School of Rock & Pop Tutors.

Don’t miss the amazing array of films this summer at Dunamaise featuring local, national and international highly acclaimed and award winning movies for young and old. Ken Wardrop, the award winning Director of His & Hers from Portarlington will screen his newest film Making the Grade, while an exclusive film night in aid of Portarlington’s Lea Castle Conservation Fund featuring restored 1920s film can be enjoyed in June. The awards season will resonate with a screening of The Shape of Water, 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, A Fantastic Woman, and The Bread Winner.

The Gallery walls will be awash with amazing art including exhibitions by Abbeyleix Further Education Centre Art students, Lynda Devenney Paradoxical Properties, The Wolfhill Coalmine Project, Unravelling Laois, Philip Barrett, and The O’Moore Place Community Group.
