More 200 people attended the Portlaoise Educate Together National School’s (PETNS) autumn multi-cuisine and fancy dress night recently in the school’s hall at Summerhill.
The annual event celebrates the multi-cultural ethos of the school. It brings students, parents and teachers together to meet each other. It also encourages people to chat with each other about their heritage while sampling each other’s wide varieties of traditional dishes.
A disco took place for the children who dressed up for the occasion, many in their Halloween costumes.
Despite a new parents association having only been elected in mid September the event organisers were happy with their efforts.
The new secretary for the PA Theresa Cullen said, “We have just taken over several weeks ago but we are delighted with the turn out this evening. Everyone is having such a great time.
“The children love running around together, dancing and eating loads of cakes. The adults are chatting away to each other drinking teas and coffees and having the odd treat themselves. We are proud to have been elected to the PA. Both the new chairperson Siobhan Mannion and I love it.
“We get on well together and are friends outside of the school. We are currently in the process of organising a grand ball for next summer and have the hotel preliminarily booked. This should be a great fundraising event for the school.”
The positions for joint treasurers for the PA remained unchanged as Joanna Kucharz and Ilona Goncarenko were elected back into their positions.
The new pareants association thanks everyone who supported them and helped in any way to make its first event successful.
