Restored musical jewell to be unveiled at Laois session

A special musical instrument was set to be heard in all its glory after restoration when it was played at a trad session in Laois this weekend.

The monthly Traditional Irish music session at Headen's pub in Spink was the venue on Friday night, January 27 for the launch of a recently restored Sebastian Erard 7 pedal Gothic Harp.

A special feature of this coming Friday night Spink session will be the launch of a recently restored Sebastein Erard 7 pedal Gothic Harp.

It's been lovingly restored by a Laois-based musical instrument maker and master craftsman Ger Doheny of Irish Craft Instruments.

The 200-year-old instrument has had a checkered life from a Tipperary Castle, a Dundrum Dublin flat and a Spink hayshed.

It was due to be played in Spink on the night by its owner the Co Clare concertina player Christy Ennis.
