A talented Laois musician will perform for US President Joe Biden on his Irish visit.

Harpist Triona Marshall who grew up in a talented musical family, living in Mountmellick and then Portlaoise, is reuniting again with The Chieftains.

They will play especially for the President in Ballina, Mayo on Friday night, April 14.

The US Ambassador Claire Cronan has said she is "honoured to say that The Chieftains will reunite one last time in honour of President Biden and play together for the first time since Paddy's passing".

The Coronas and The Academic will be the warm up acts at a stage in front of the Cathedral in Ballina.

The Chieftains previously played for Joe Biden when he visited as US Vice President in 2016.

Triona began playing the harp at the age of seven, going on to have a distinguished career, including as principal harpist with The RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

After the sad passing in 2002 of one of Ireland’s iconic harpists and composers, Derek Bell, Triona began playing harp with the band full-time.

Over a decade later, she may be heard on four of their platinum selling albums and has completed an estimated twenty-seven tours that has brought her around the world several times over.

During this time with the band, she has collaborated with artists such as Paolo Nutini, Tim O’Brien, Sinéad Ó Connor, Ry Cooder, Carlos Nunez, Bon Iver, The Decemberists, Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Von Trapp Family, Imelda May, Moya Brennan, Bela Fleck, Ricky Skaggs, and Jerry Douglas, amongst others.

She has several albums herself, see more on www.trionamarshall.com
