Mountrath woman Claire Byrne is not putting her name in the ring to be the new host of The Late Late Show.

Making the announcement on social media, the broadcaster says raising her children and her weekday RTÉ Radio 1 show are enough for her at the moment.

Posting on her Instagram account, she said: "I have a young family, a busy home life and a full-time radio job that I love, and right now, that is enough for me".

It's not a dissimilar reason when she explained why she was packing in the Claire Byrne Live Show in 2022. She says she could give her full focus to the biggest job on Irish TV.

"While I’d never rule out other TV projects, the Late Late Show should be presented by someone who can give it the time and dedication that it deserves,"

She was pleased that her name was mentioned as a potential host but she feels she can't commit to giving what it takes.

“I’ve been honoured to have my name linked to The Late Late Show and to such a prestigious broadcasting role. The show is an iconic one which demands huge commitment from the presenter, as demonstrated so well by Ryan, Pat (Kenny) and Gay (Byrne),” she wrote.

"While I’d never rule out other TV projects, the Late Late Show should be presented by someone who can give it the time and dedication that it deserves."

The Mountrath woman, now aged 47, was made the bookie's favourite soon after Miriam O'Callaghan said she didn't want the job either.

The Laois native has written previously about being inspired by Late Late legend 'Gaybo' who was the first and longest presenter of the hit show. She spoke about how he inspired and entertained her as a child and advised her as an adult.

The Brigidine Covent Mountrath past pupil spoke about how she reflected on the importance of family in the wake of the death of her father Tom's death at home in Mountrath during the Covid-19 pandemic.
