'Up Laois' - Cullohill's New Yorker introduces herself to the Rose of Tralee world

Can teacher Sinead reign supreme on the big stage in the Kingdom

Laois Rose 2023 has introduced herself to the Rose of Tralee world with a call that will resonate with lots of local GAA fans.

Sinead Dowd, aged 25 years old, who is living in Cullohill has had her bio published on the Rose of Tralee website ahead of the upcoming event in Kerry. She starts by explaining her American roots.

"I was born and raised in New York; however, I made the solo move to Ireland at the age of 16 (hence the strange accent!). With both my parents being Irish, and the abundance of cousins I have here, I always had a strong connection to Ireland, and couldn’t wait to make a life for myself here.

"I am an English and Geography secondary school teacher. While I love guiding young people to reach their fullest potential, I also love the everyday interactions with my students, and seeing their confidence develop.

"I have recently taken up Gaelic football with Shanahoe LGFA. I’m still struggling with the skills, but I’m enjoying the social side of it! If I was to describe myself in one word it would be optimistic.

"Life is a beautiful thing, but it can also be challenging, and I try to look for a bright side in most situations. I am honoured and privileged to be representing my county in the Rose of Tralee International Festival.

"I am looking forward to making amazing memories throughout the festivities.

Sinead concludes: "Up Laois!"

The latest betting has Sinead as a 16 /1 shot to claim the coveted title later this month in Kerry.

The Rose of Tralee returns to the Kingdom from August 18th - August 22nd. Roses representing Ireland and abroad will take to the stage at the Dome in the Kerry Sports Academy at the MTU on August 21st and 22nd.
