Taking part in the International Rose of Tralee festival has imbued Laois Rose Sinead Dowd with new confidence.

The Cullohill native did Laois proud on the Tralee stage where she was interviewed by Daithí Ó Sé live on RTÉ television.

Sinead who told Daithí how she travelled from her New York home to live in Laois at the tender age of 17, is now looking forward to some more travel.

She spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live as the dust settled on the 2023 festival, where New York Rose Roísín Wiley won the sash.

"The stage night is something I will never forget. Considering I was the last rose to take the stage on Monday night, I was quite nervous waiting around. However, the moment Daithi asked me his first question all the nerves went out the door.

"Daithi and Katherine were fantastic and made every effort to keep myself and the other girls comfortable and relaxed. I feel that it was a once in a life time opportunity to showcase who I am as a person and my love for Ireland. I was completely myself and have no regrets about anything.

"Whilst this may sound cliché, the highlight of the entire experience would have to be the friendships I have left with. We spend every day, all day together for two weeks, so our bond grew very fast.

"One moment that sticks out for me is a private helicopter ride! It was something I've never done before and it reminded me how lucky I am to be in this position.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank every business and person who has supported me with sponsorship. In particular, my sponsors Turley's Bar in Mountmellick, The Style Bar and Skyn Clinic in Portlaoise, Catwalk boutique in Kilkenny who gifted me countless accessories, the Harps GAA, and every other business who donated to the cause. This journey would not have been possible without any of them.

"On a final note, I would like to thank The Rose of Tralee festival for providing this once in a lifetime experience.

"To be the Laois rose in itself is something that I still am in shock over. No matter the outcome, I feel that I have came out of this journey with more confidence and self worth. If there are any young women considering pursuing this, just know that it has been nothing but fun and empowering.

"I'm looking forward to continuing my duties as Laois Rose. I'm hoping to travel in the near future. I don't have a definite plan of action yet, but that is the beauty of it all. This celebration of women has given me confidence to take more risks and to try new things, so here's to the next chapter," Sinead Dowd said.
