Abbeyleix is gearing up for a big year in 2025 as the Laois Heritage Town celebrates its 250th anniversary.
To do justice to the year of celebration funds have to be raised to pay to stage events next year that will entertain local people and attract visitors to the town which is the reigning Tidiest Town in Ireland.
John Nolan of the landmark Morrissey's Pub is among those planning for the anniversary year. The pub hosted a Halloween party last year which was a huge hit.
It's back again this year as a fundraiser for the 250th celebrations.
"We've been working on fundraising ideas and to kick this off, our first fundraising event will be held in Morrissey's with all ticket sales from the Halloween Fancy Dress party going directly to the Abbeyleix Celebrates 250 fund," he said.

A 'spooktacular' night of frights, fun, and fantastic costumes is promised by Morrissey's which will be festooned in creepy decorations with lots of tasty cocktails, and a thrilling atmosphere, which they claim will make your Halloween unforgettable.
Some prizes are promised for the best fancy dress costumes.
Tickets for the over 18s fancy dress party are €10 and can be purchased on Eventrbrite.
Tickets will be limited- first come, first served. The Halloween Fancy Dress Party takes place in Morrissey's on Sunday, October 27 from 8pm.
"We hope you’re able to join us and if not, tell a friend," says John.
