Jack B Yeats painting among rare items to be auctioned off in Laois

Standout pieces of furniture, seminal works of art and highly desirable antiques form the centrepiece of a three-day sale in Durrow on November 26, 27 and 28 hosted by Sheppard's Irish Auction House.

The Grange Manor, on the Kilkenny-Laois border, and other important clients features over 1,600 lots.

Here are some choice lots from the catalogue:

Lot 187 - From a Laois country house collection is a rare Istran stone vessel from the 18th-19th century (or earlier), surface decorated with a rhythmic envelopment of interlocked carved circular cartouches each framed a stylised bas-relief floral motif combining geometric repetition with naturalistic elements. It has an estimate of €5,000 to €8,000.

Lot 1263 - A rare Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch has an estimate of €80,000 to €120,000 on Thursday, November 28, Day 3 of our Grange Manor Auction. Reference 25686BA Year: 1998. Housed within a bold octagonal case and crafted entirely from 18 ct. yellow gold it is accompanied with an 18 ct. yellow gold bracelet complete with full box & papers. Limited edition of 70 made.

Lot 66 - A painting by Jack B Yeats (1871-1957) , Portrait of 'The Porter' is a pen ink and watercolour. Provenance: The Oriel Gallery. Estimate: €4,000 to €6,000.

Lot 100 - Pair of historically important Boulle Cabinets from Kilkenny Castle. The 19th-century ormolu-mounted, ebony pewter brass and tortoiseshell boulle marquetry cabinets, each with a rectangular shaped top above two glazed leaf scroll inlaid doors flanking a Bacchic mask and ram's head decorated central panelled door were sold as separate lots at the Kilkenny Castle dispersal sale in 1935 Lots 311 and 312. A report on the second day of the sale, indicating that one of the cabinets was sold for £37 and 10 shillings.

Lot 1143 - An 18 Carat white gold diamond Solitaire Ring has an estimate of €7,000 to €9,000. Round, brilliant-cut diamond solitaire in a four-claw setting. Diamond weight: 1.57 ct.; clarity: VS2; colour: H.
