It may feel like Christmas is only over but towns across Laois are looking ahead to St Patrick's Day with preparations well underway for this year's celebrations. After a gap of several years the St Patrick's Day parade in Portarlington is making a comeback this year. The organising committee has announced the theme of their 2025 parade will be snakes with all groups, clubs and businesses encouraged to get involved.

"Want to be part of this amazing comeback parade? Showcase your creativity, celebrate your group, and be part of the fun! Whether you're a school, community group, sports team, or local business, we’d love to have you involved," said the organising committee.

"Let’s make 2025 a year to remember for Portarlington!"

The parade will be a walking parade only and will begin at 3pm on March 17. Meeting point/drop off point & time: 2.30pm, Crowe lane. The starting point and route: Bank Of Ireland, Main Street and the ending point is the People’s Park.
