Laois will be well represented at the New York St Patrick's Day festivities this year, by Timahoe Male Choir as well as the CEO and Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council.

The council approved their formal invite to walk in the parade and attend events, issued by the President of the County Laois Association in New York, Mike Dunphy.

The choir which has nearly 40 members will be paying their own fares to go, and proudly represent the county, no doubt singing their new version of Lovely Laois on their debut EP launching this February at a special concert with Micky Joe Harte.

From the council, it will be the second trip for Cathaoirleach Cllr Padraig Fleming who had the honour as Cathaoirleach back in 2018, and the first one for the new CEO, Michael Rainey.

The Laois officials will also be meeting Irish New York representatives in business and tourism to encourage them to come to Laois.

New York's parade along 5th Avenue will take place on Monday, March 17.
