Dunamaise Arts Centre and Fort Outdoor Entertainment Space in Portlaoise to be jointly run
A recruitment process is underway in Laois to hire a CEO to run the Dunamaise Arts Centre and outdoor entertainment venue in Portlaoise's Old Fort Quarter.
The Laois Arts Theatre Company CLG is hiring a chief executive officer to develop and implement an artistic and strategic vision. A key part of the role looks set to be the transition to taking responsibility for the running of the nearby Fort Protector Outdoor Performance Venue in Portlaoise.
The job spec for the CEO role says the Laois Arts Theatre Company CLG was established in 1998. It's described as a registered charity that oversees and manages the operation of the Dunamaise Arts Centre.
"From 2025, the organisation will also be responsible for operating the Fort Protector Outdoor Performance Venue on behalf of Laois County Council," says the company.
The Dunamaise Arts Centre already has a manager but the job outline for prospective candidates says the role of CEO is a new position with a broader remit for the Portlaoise venues. MORE BELOW PICTURE.
"The CEO will lead the operations of the Laois Arts Theatre Company, incorporating the Dunamaise Arts Centre and the Fort Protector Outdoor Performance and Event Space, oversee artistic, strategic, and operational activities, and ensure that both centres remain vibrant, dynamic, and financially sustainable.
"The CEO will be responsible for the development and implementation of the centre’s artistic and strategic vision, building on its rich history while fostering innovation and community engagement. This role requires an exceptional leader with a passion for the arts, strong management skills, and a proven ability to deliver on organisational objectives," says the job spec.
The Laois Arts Theatre Company CLG says it is looking for a "highly motivated individual with proven experience in leadership and strategic planning, artistic and programme development, financial operational management, and stakeholder engagement, as well as a background in the arts sector"
The successful applicant will get a four-year, fixed-term contract, that may be extended, subject to continued funding. The salary is €62,500 per annum.
The Dunamaise Arts Centre celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024. It is located on the site of the Old County Gaol, built in 1789. The premises is owned by the council and is funded by Laois County Council, the Arts Council and revenue from shows and events. MORE BELOW PICTURE.
The Fort Outdoor Performance & Events Space is a Laois County Council-developed venue which opened in 2024 supported by the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage, and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

It was built as part of the development of the Old Fort Quarter to host cultural performances, concerts, theatrical productions, and community events. It has a capacity of 2,000 standing and 500 seated guests.
