This summer, Laois locals are encouraged to visit some of the stunning heritages sites the county has to offer.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) is encouraging people to enjoy the sunshine by exploring some beautiful heritage sites.
"Whether you are looking for a fun family day out, a jam-packed itinerary of activities, or a quiet moment of contemplation surrounded by art and nature, OPW heritage sites have something for everyone," a spokesperson said.
With over 90 amazing places to visit, there is no shortage of options for summer adventures.
“OPW Heritage sites have so much on offer, from historical castles and battlefields to beautifully maintained gardens to art exhibitions and cultural sites. Why not visit some of OPW sites over the summer months and soak up all things Irish," said Kevin “Boxer” Moran TD, Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works.
Emo Court and Estate offers a great day out for families, with a fantastic neo-classical mansion steeped in history and surrounded with gorgeous scenery.
Heywood Gardens, the eighteenth-century landscape near Ballinakill, consists of gardens, lakes, woodland and some exciting architectural features.
Killeshin church is a notable example of 12th century Romanesque architecture, and widely regarded as one of the finest representations of Romanesque art in Ireland.
"From spectacular castles such as Barryscourt Castle, Ferns Castle and Ormond Castle to historic houses like Doneraile and Emo Court. From serene gardens at Altamont or Annes Grove to ancient monuments such as Carrowmore and the Céide Fields, OPW sites offer a unique glimpse into Ireland's rich cultural and natural history," they said.
"Whether you are planning a day trip with the family, a solo excursion to soak up some history, or a leisurely catch-up with friends over coffee, OPW heritage sites have got you covered.
"Take advantage of guided tours, special events, and cultural exhibitions to make the most of your summer days out," they finished."
