Some of the vintage Laois auctioneer posters to feature in an exhibition in Mountmellick Library for Heritage Week.
A fascinating new collection of original Laois auctioneer posters dating from 1894 has gone on display for Heritage Week.
The collection includes many by the famed Laois TD Oliver J Flanagan who was also an auctioneer.
It has been painstakingly gathered up by Mountmellick historical collector John Fitzgerald.
He told the Leinster Express / Laois Live about it.
"We in Mountmellick Heritage Society are very proud this year to have a selection of auctioneers posters. The auctioneers are Harry Odlum, Joseph Morgan, Daniel Williams, Oliver J Flanagan, Meredith and Moore, Michael Scott, Tom Cullen, Sean Whelan, William Shaw and Scott and Dunne.
"It's part of our heritage. I went around to the descendants of many of the auctioneers and they kindly donated the posters. I’ve gathered cuttings from newspapers as well," John said.

"One nice one is the sale of all the fixtures and fittings of Batt Leathergoods factory. All the posters were printed in Mountmellick, in George Harris' print works," he said.
The exhibition is on display in Mountmellick Library for the month of August. The offical launch is on Tuesday, August 12 at 6.30pm. All welcome.
Heritage Week takes place from from August 16 to August 24, with over 60 events across Laois. See the line-up here.
