A Laois town is knocking it out of the park for Culture Night in Ireland next Friday, September 19, thanks to the local arts collective.

Portarlington Arts Collective has a massive list of events, all for free, including two Edinburgh Fringe Comedy shows.

A highlight of their events is at 9pm with Upstairs at the Anvil: Free Comedy Night. Not one but two incredible Irish comedians bring their comedies to Portarlington direct from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

"Sure they had to warm up somewhere" say the organisers.

Colman Hayes' show 'Is This Anything?' is a loose, funny work-in-progress show about growing up Catholic, figuring out sex and wondering how he ended up like this. Jokes, stories, confusion. Possibly closure.

Aideen McQueen's funny show is called 'Waiting for Texto'. Waiting for a response to your carefully crafted WhatsApp message? Frustrated? No reply? Described as “Bridget Jones meets Baby Reindeer” this show is perfect for anyone who's struggled with love and texting in the digital age."

Portarlington will have an exciting Art Crawl showcasing history, art, music, crafts, architecture, literature and comedy.  The events are spread across the town from the Train Station to the Library down to the Parochial Hall and ending in The Anvil Inn show.

They are also welcoming a delegation from the French town of Redessan which is twinned with Portarlington.

The day's events list is a thrilling one starting with a tasty free treat.
