The creative project was developed through a partnership between LOETB Community Education and the team at the B Braun dialysis clinic team in Portlaoise.
It brought together participants engaged in long-term treatment, with creativity at the centre of the experience.
The launch included reflections on the journey of the project, insights from a clinical perspective, and discussion on the importance of creative engagement in supporting wellbeing, connection, and self-expression during ongoing treatment.
"This project is a strong example of the positive impact that collaboration between community education, clinical services, and industry can have. It also highlights the valuable role of creativity in supporting wellbeing within healthcare settings," said LOETB.
Delivered by tutor Pauline McNelis, the organisers say 'Through Our Eyes' provided people attending dialysis with the opportunity to engage in painting as a way to reflect on and express their experiences in a clinical environment.
The launch was attended by project partners, healthcare staff, educators and guests. Speaking at the launch, contributors highlighted how the project placed participants at its centre and demonstrated the positive impact of creative learning within healthcare settings.
Following its launch at Portlaoise Library, the “Through Our Eyes” exhibition will now be displayed at B Braun, allowing a wider audience to engage with the artwork and the stories behind it.
This project showcases the strength of collaboration between community education, clinical services, and industry, and highlights the role of creativity in supporting connection, expression and wellbeing.
