Portlaoise Comhaltas enjoyed a busy week last week, with a performance to mark the start of Seachtain na Gaeilge at Portlaoise Library, as well as playing at the St patrick’s Day mass, and performing on the Comhaltas float in the Portlaoise St Patrick’s Day parade.
The group currently have about 100 members coming to practice every week, and teaching them is a high calibre group of well regarded musicians. They meet every Tuesday evening in St Paul’s School on the Borris Road, but as well as this, they often travel to meet other Comhaltas branches, and in turn host groups in Portlaoise.
Teaching at Portlaoise Comhaltas are Mary Reilly on accordians, Erin McKeone on fiddles, banjos and strings, Deirdre Phelan teaches groups, Aine McGeaney teaches singing, Aidan Flynn on flutes and whistles, Damien O’ Rourke on guitars, and Niamh Demmeade on harp.
This summer group members will be taking part in a seisuin every Thursday in Kavanaghs, starting from June 28. Email email@example.com to find out more.
