James Fintan -Lalor festival

Historians, politicians and journalists are among those on the bill for the inaugural James Fintan Lalor School from September 20-21 at the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

Historians, politicians and journalists are among those on the bill for the inaugural James Fintan Lalor School from September 20-21 at the Dunamaise Arts Centre.

The guests will discuss the writings of Laois patriot James Fintan Lalor and explore his relevance in the Ireland. The event starts on Friday, September 20 (Culture Night) with the premiere of a specially commissioned play by Mike Finn, starring Paul Meade and Myles Dungan.

The event continues on Saturday, September 21 with debates featuring Diarmaid Ferriter, Ruth Dudley-Edwards, Myles Dungan, Mary O’Rourke, Robert Ballagh, John Drennan, Seamus Hosey and others.

The organisers say the school will be tribute to a man who fought for oppressed farmers and workers.
