Portarlington’s new amateur theatre group are set for a busy season with a big night of James Bond and a production of Ebony Scrooge.
The great thing is that most of what the group do for fun and the love of the stage also raises funds for local charities and needy causes in Port.
This Friday, December 6 the Portarlington Drama Society is holding a fancy dress night with a twist in The Anvil Inn Port.
The group says it will be a themed night with local people urged to come along dressed as your favourite Janes Bond character. Tickets on sale in the Anvil for €10. There will be spot prizes games and dj on the night.
On the night as part of the society’s constitution they will be presenting the St Vincent De Paul with a cheque from our proceeds from its last production the Aquinas Moth which was staged in the Dunamaise Theatre last May.
The theatre group will also have boxes at the doors to collect toys as part of the St Vincent de Paul Christmas toy collection which raises badly needed funds for families who are less well of.
“It’s a feel good community story coming up to Christmas as the Portarlington Drama Society are a brand new organisation in Port and we hope to bring as much fun as we bring drama to Portarlington,” says Deirdre Norris of the society.
As if the fancy dress night was not enough to prepare for, the society is also rehearsing for festive performance.
“We are also in production for our Christmas play of Ebony Scrooge in collaboration St Paul’s Church,” said MS Norris.
The play will be staged on Saturday, December 21 at 4pm in St Paul’s Church. All proceeds to St Pauls renovation.
