Great day out at the Festival in Rosenallis

The sun shone for the Festival of the Mountain took place on Sunday, June 29.

The weather makes the day, if the sun shines they will come and that’s exactly what they did, the crowds in attendance made the day.

There were some interesting attractions and some old favourites too. The day started with the Children’s Fancy dress competition which was won by Harry Molloy aged two who was Superman and Hannah Mahon aged six who came as Queen of the Mountain. The Rosenallis ICA ladies kindly provided tea and refreshments while many took a chance on the Wheel of Fortune.

The organisers would like to thank the Clonaslee ICA branch and John who came to the assistance of the committee, you generosity was greatly appreciated.

The Glamorous Grany competition sponsored by W.H. Deverell Oil Ltd. was held with Bridgie Young from Clonaslee getting the beautiful prize. Theey had a welcome return visit from last year’s Queen of the Mountain 2013 Tanya Kane who assisted in presenting this year’s Queen. There was a beautiful line up of ladies and Martina Ryan, Ballyfin was crowned Queen of the Mountain 2014 which was sponsored by Clonaslee Pharmacy.

The Bonny Baby competition was a great attraction as always with three categories of beautiful babies with their mothers. The King of the Mountain competition sponsored by Clonaslee Pharmacy had an unusual entrant, a goat was entered but the prize went to Ross Mahon, Rosenallis who was crowned King of the Mountain 2014.

The day was filled with fun with guess the weight of the Llama, fish dish, a Donkey Derby which was won by Niall Doolan. We had Raven Haven Aviaries breeders and exhibitors of native birds & birds of prey also a model farm collection which was a wonderful representation of rural life. There was a collection of fowl including peacock’s and unusual breeds of birds which were enjoyed by young and old. The bouncing castles provided by Megabounce were thoroughly enjoyed by the children had great fun on the slides and playing basketball.

The Dog show drew a brilliant crowd with many entrants in all five categories with overall champion going to ‘Rua’ owned by Tracie. The Children’s races were great fun with family and friends cheering them from the side lines. T

he Monica Hyland Perpetual Plaque was awarded to Annette Dwyer on winning the mother’s race. Eoin Conroy won the father’s race. Children’s face painting was provided by Macra Na Feirme, with hair being done by Laura McEvoy. Loom bands and Tatoo’s were available too. The Tug of War completed the day with 3 teams competing for the WR Shaw Ltd. Cup the winner’s after an exciting pull against Rosenallis were O’Loughlin’s Hotel, Portloaise tug of war team.
