There’s lots of creative fun to look forward to during the Laois County Council Summer Arts Programme 2016, running at venues throughout the county during July and August.

The workshops start off in Mountrath from July 5 to 7, with artist Wendy Wright. Over the three days Wendy will explore the different techniques in painting, artcraft and creative sculpture.

In Mountmellick from July 12 to 14, artist Conor Brennan will run workshops from 2pm-4pm in the MDA building, giving young artists the opportunity to create their own art treasures in painting and creative sculpture.

Week three, in Portlaoise from July 26 to 28 , Fin O’Hara from Fin Pottery Tuition will give workshops over three days, in the morning from 11am-1pm and a second workshop in the afternoon from 2pm-4pm.

From August 2 to 4, the ever popular Shadow Play Workshops with artist Lorraine Walsh will be back at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally. Themed around ‘fantastical creatures the workshops are a fun exploration of light and shadow for young artists.

In the final week from August 9 to 11, young graphic artists will get the opportunity to explore comic art from 11am to 4pm in the Dunamaise Arts Centre. Participants learn how to create their own comic strip with the cartoonist and illustrator Donal Casey.
