The Vanbrugh Quartet presents three of the best loved classical quartets by Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert, complemented in this programme by a new work by Ian Wilson, Ireland's most prolific composer for string quartet.
The D major quartet by Haydn is famous for a sublime slow movement and scampering finale. The 'Serioso' F minor quartet shows Beethoven at his most terse, packing huge emotion and energy into a remarkably short quartet. Schubert's 'Death and the Maiden' quartet is an epic work of great beauty and grandeur.
The extraordinary tarantella chase in the last movement leaves players and audience equally breathless.
The Vanbrugh Quartet take to the stage of the Dunamaise at 8pm this Friday, October 21.
Tickets priced €18/€16 are still available from the box office.
