REDMOND O’Toole has been described as one of the most innovative and exciting young guitarists in Europe. He will be coming to the GB Shaw in Carlow on Saturday April 21 to perform an intimate concert in the Link Gallery.
Redmond plays an eight string guitar in an unorthodox style, holding it in the cello position which allows him great freedom of posture and an extension of the guitar’s repertoire, which features many of his own arrangements of Baroque and Classical music previously unknown on guitar. He is also highly interested in new music and has premiered works by major composers including Kevin Volans, John Mc Laughlin and Benjamin Dwyer.
He has performed in Mexico, Spain and Italy and regularly returns to Germany where he lived for several years. As well as solo recitals in concert seasons and festivals, Redmond plays in duos with Irish violinist Elizabeth Cooney and with one of the world’s leading cellists Raphael Wallfish.
Redmond is guest guitarist with The Chieftans and has toured internationally with them. He has also played with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Crash Ensemble and has released three CDs. He has won numerous competitions and awards including the Ireland’s largest music prize, the RDS Music Bursary and the National Concert Hall’s Rising Star.
The wonderful setting in the Link Gallery will greatly enhance the atmosphere for this concert of classical guitar music. Tickets are priced at €15 and are available now, contact 059 91 72400 or visit www.gbshawtheatre.ie.
