TO celebrate culture night the Dunamaise are hosting a number of activities this Friday September 21, with workshops and performaces.
There will be a Stampede drumming workshop organised by Music Generation with well known and popular drummer Eddie O’ Neill.
Members of the public, of all ages and abilities, are invited to come along. Eddie O Neill is the founder of rhythmretreats.com. He is a a professional drum circle facilitator, and a certified drum therapist.
People can learn about the huge variety of rhythms within African drumming and create polyrhythmic beats using djembes, bass drums and congas under Eddie’s guidance. To book a place contact Music Generation Laois on email@example.com or ring 057 86 74370.
There will also be another Music Generation event, also run by Music Generation. This will give young people, aged 18 and under, the opportunity to perform on the theatre’s stage. Stewart Quinn will introduce the young artists on to the stage and the event is open to both solo performers and bands. To register and for further information, contact Rosa Flannery on firstname.lastname@example.org, ring 057 86 74370 or find Music Generation Laois on facebook.
Later that evening the local Portlaoise branch of An Comhaltas will host a traditional concert featuring Ceoltóirí an Dúchais, a group of musicians who attended the Careers in Music workshop at Abbeyleix during the summer with friends from across the county. This is tradition with a modern twist. For more information contact PJ Phelan at 087 2345010.
