CULTURE Night 2012 takes place on Friday September 21, and will be Laois ‘s 3rd annual free celebration of culture in Laois. Organisers are hoping to make it the most comprehensive and exciting one yet.
Culture Night is an opportunity for the public to do something different, to take a chance and see something they’ve never seen before. For the cultural organisation it is an opportunity to welcome new interest and to catch up with old friends and show them just what that organisation has to offer. According to the organisers, it is a night to showcase and enjoy Laois’ hidden culture and remarkable creativity.
There was a wonderful celebration last year that included events throughout the county and organisers would like to open it up to more venues and organisations as this one night represents a huge opportunity to reach out and attract attention to your work. Museums, galleries, churches, historic houses, artists’ studios and cultural centres are encouraged to open their doors late into the evening to welcome people of all ages to taste and sample the artistic and cultural delights there are in Laois.
Last years’ events included art workshops, a magic show, performances by Comhaltas, guitar performances by Laois School of Music, Dance exhibitions, poetry readings, art exhibitions and much more. Those who are in a cultural organisation, with or without a venue, and would like to get involved in Culture Night can contact The Arts Office at 057 86 74342/43 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
