Local Government must be overhauled if Portlaoise is to be revitalised according to Brian Stanley TD.
Speaking in the Dáil on the Local Government (Town Centres) bill, Dep Stanley said he learned from being a councillor that improvement efforts are halted by a lack of power and money.
“Towns including my own town of Portlaoise, despite the best efforts of business and communities, are in need of serious town centre revitalisation.
“The central problem with local government in this state is that consecutive governments have continued to suck the oxygen of power out of local councils...To affect the revitalisation of our town centres local government must be overhauled.”
