Midlands Supermac's restaurants takeaway national business awards

Supermac's restaurants around the Midlands are the big winners at the Irish fast food company's Annual Awards.

Laois, Tipperary and Kildare branches are among the midlands winners who scooped several of the top awards at the Supermac's Annual Awards that were held at the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick this week.

The manager at the Supermac's in the Portlaoise Plaza, Shane Byrne Comerford, was selected as Manager of the year.

Both the Barack Obama Plaza and Supermac's Roscrea received awards for increased sales while Junction 14 received the award for best franchised outlet.

John Kennedy has picked up the coveted ‘Franchisee of the Year’ Award for running the Athlone, Ferbane and Birr restaurants. He received the award for outstanding achievement in service, operations, marketing and public relations.

Speaking at the event Supermac’s MD, Pat McDonagh, paid tribute to the Supermac's teams.

“All of our winners have worked very hard to get to a level where they win an award,” Pat McDonagh said. “There are 120 outlets so the competition is strong and to achieve an award-winning year is something all our winners should be proud of” he said. 

46 years ago, Supermac’s 1st opened its door in Ballinasloe and a year later made its first venture outside of County Galway by opening an outlet on O’Connell St in Ennis. 

The group currently employs over 4,000 people throughout the country. 

Supermac’s also operates Papa John’s Pizza, SuperSubs and Macs Place Diners. The Só Hotel Group is also owned by Pat and Úna McDonagh which includes the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise.
