A traditional Irish Italian chipshop in Laois is closing down, but the owners promise that it is not for good.
The Golden Grill on Patrick Street in Mountmellick has shut down as from Monday, June 9.
Its Laois owners who also run a Golden Grill on Portlaoise Main Street, say "we're not gone" but instead are looking for new tenants to run the Mountmellick business.
"We are not moving as many have heard. Unfortunately though Golden Grill -Mountmellick will be temporarily closed from Monday 9th June 2025.
"Myself and Dino have tried relentlessly over the last year and will continue to keep looking for a suitable experienced tenant to re-open our Chipper business in Mountmellick ASAP," the company says.
They suggest that their loyal customers who are missing their chips should visit the sister takeaway.
"We are still fully operational in Golden Grill -Portlaoise on the lower Main Street. If anybody would still like to eat the master Dino’s chips hop in the car, drive the backroad to Portlaoise and equip yourself with a thermal bag. The chips be still hot when u get back to Mountmellick.
"We would like to thank all the people of Mountmellick and surrounding areas for there support in these years its true what they say Small town big no we’d say huge heart," they say.
