UPDATE: Laois coffee trailer paid 'massive cost' to fix noise complaints

A small Laois business has responded to comments at a Laois County Council meeting, regarding noise complaints by neighbours.

Bloom Coffee Box runs a coffee trailer at Portlaoise train station, renting a parking spot from Irish Rail and using their own power to serve train passengers all day.

A motion was heard at Portlaoise Municipal District this month, where Cllr Tommy Mulligan said that the public made complaints to him about early morning noise from their generator, starting at 4.50am.

"It has caused considerable noise, this generator. It has been disturbing sleep and we all know the detrimental effects of that. It has been waking young children," he said.

He noted that the problem was already solved. "I got in touch with Irish Rail and they have replaced it with a new generator that has eliminated this noise pollution. I ask you to change the wording of the motion to 'monitor'," he said.  Read that story here

In response, the business has given a public statement, explaining that they "immediately" had taken action themselves to resolve the problem, thanking customers for support.

"We acted quickly and responsibly, and our new generator is now quieter than we are before the first coffee.

"A huge thank-you to everyone who supports us daily, especially our commuters. You’re the reason we open early and love what we do.

"It was never our intention to disrupt anyone's day or morning. when this issue was brought to us, we took it seriously, contacted Irish Rail immediately, and have been working tirelessly in the background to get a long-term solution in place," the company said.

"While that work continues, we bought a brand new extra-silent generator, a massive cost for a small business like ours, so we could keep trading and keep our neighbours happy. It's now fully in place, extremely quiet, and we hope the issue is resolved for good.

"I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank our very hard-working and loyal staff, who open at 6am and work until 7pm, serving our community and helping people get to and from work. Their dedication means everything to us.

"And to our customers, we are so propud to enjoy the mornings and daily commutes with the people of Laois. Laois wsa recently named the hardest-working county in Ireland and we see that determination every single day. Early starts, late finishes, constant movement, we're proud to be even a small part of your routine." Bloom Coffee Box say.
