Midlands Steel is located in the J17 National Enterprise Park in Portlaoise.

The Laois-based Midland Steel Group says it has achieved a major sustainability milestone by becoming the first company in Ireland the highest rating available in a sustainable steel certification process.

The company, which is located in Portlaoise,  says it is only the second across the independent CARES (Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steels)network to be awarded 3 Stars under the Sustainable Constructional Steel (SCS) certification.

The business also retained a ‘Very Good’ rating under BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing. A statement to the Leinster Express / Laois Live said this reinforces its commitment to responsible material sourcing, carbon reduction, and supply chain transparency.

The award follows independent audits in July and follows what Midland Steel Group says is an investment in sustainable practices and innovation within the Irish construction sector.

“This is a proud achievement for our team and a reflection of our long-term focus on sustainability and responsible growth” said Tony Woods, CEO of Midland Steel Group. MORE BELOW PHOTO.

“To achieve 3 Stars under the SCS scheme places us at the forefront of sustainable reinforcement solutions in Ireland. It’s recognition of the dedication of our people and partners who drive continuous improvement across every part of our business”

A statement said the CARES SCS certification assesses environmental and social responsibility across steel manufacturing and supply. The 3-star rating is reserved for companies demonstrating leadership in carbon management, resource efficiency, and transparency.

In addition to its sustainability performance, Midland Steel Group says it continues to lead the industry through innovative off-site reinforcement systems such as FasterFix, designed to accelerate construction programs while improving safety, efficiency, and sustainability on projects by moving traditional on-site steel fixing to a controlled factory environment.

The company adds that the latest certification results position Midland Steel Group at the top of Ireland’s sustainability rankings for reinforcement steel, ahead of other major industry suppliers.
