Laois florist takes home outstanding prize at Irish Wedding Awards 2018

Yvonne Duffy from Mountmellick is celebrating today after her well-known florist business came second in the Outstanding Supplier of the Year at the Irish Wedding Awards.

The Laois florist was up against stiff competition in the Outstanding Supplier category including Adare Manor in Limerick and IG Studio Photography in Dublin. UpStyle Junkie from Cork was the overall winner in the category.

The Irish Wedding Awards took place on January 28 at The Crowne Plaza, Dublin and Yvonne attended the glamorous evening with her family.

The second-generation florist said she was thrilled to be nominated.

"We are absolutely thrilled with the award last night, and are super excited about what the future has in store for us all.

"It really was a tough category we were up against many bigger operations, so to get this recognition was amazing, we would love to thank everyone who called in during the week, rang, text from near and far all our friends because they are not clients/customers to us they are our friends.

"We are so very grateful to all the couples who nominated us for this award, it really makes all the late nights early mornings worthwhile.

"To be nominated as outstanding wedding supplier of the year in Ireland really has been the highlight of my career and a true sign that my couples are the best in the country.

"Floristry is not only putting flowers together but an ever evolving art form. Especially weddings where you work so closely with your couples to express themselves on their big day.

"No two weddings are ever the same year on year with floral trends. You are always seeing new things just as no two couples are ever the same,” Yvonne told the Leinster Express.

Yvonne’s Florist in Mountmellick was taken over by Yvonne Duffy when her mother passed away in 2006.

"Many local people will have known my wonderful mother Patricia, Pat as she was fondly known, who established the business in the early 1990's and her father before her was a garden enthusiast. So I feel it really was in my genes.

"I'm very grateful to be doing a job that I love, bringing me to some of the most fantastic venues not only in Laois and the midlands but all over the country," she said.

Taking to Facebook, Yvonne’s daughter Hazel shared her happiness at the huge achievement.

“Proud moment for our family last night at the wedding awards. Second in the Outstanding Supplier of the Year against some amazing fellow nominees such as Adare Manor, a very prestigious category.

“Many of my friends are involved in family businesses and know just what it takes to keep the show on the road,” she said.

Smart Brides, Portlaoise was one of the finalists in the Wedding Boutique of the Year category at the Irish Wedding Awards.
