New building boosts adult education

Adult education in Portlaoise received a boost in September when Portlaoise College expanded into another building for further education.

Adult education in Portlaoise received a boost in September when Portlaoise College expanded into another building for further education.

This building, which was formerly used by Gaelscoil Phortlaoise, was built in 2007 and consists of 6 classrooms and 2 practical room, 4 offices, staffroom and a reception.

The bright and airy classrooms lend itself to an atmosphere suited to further education where students can avail of modern facilities and learning resources. Also a student car park can accommodate up to 80 cars, a student gym, running track and computer facilities are available to students. Other facilities include a canteen, study room, printing, and common room.

Courses run in the new building include: beauty, Health and Fitness, Sports Coaching and Leisure Management, Childcare, childcare Supervision, Pre-nursing Studies and Healthcare.

Portlaoise College Principal Mr. Noel Daly states that the addition of the building very encouraging for future students in further education. He expects an increase of student next year.
