Six Laois restaurants represented the county last week (Monday, June 9), at the All-Ireland Irish Restaurant Awards 2014.
The restaurants all previously won in their categories at the Leinster regional awards: The Candied Walnut was best restaurant in Laois, and best customer service; Ryan Murphy of Ballyfin Demense was best chef in Laois; Preston House was best hotel restaurant; Seasons Bistro best casual dining; Lethean was best gastro pub; and Castle Durrow Restaurant was best wine experience.
The national awards took place last week in The DoubleTree by Hilton, Dublin, to name and fame the top restaurants in the island of Ireland for 2014. Nominated across nine winning categories, the restaurants from Laois faced competition in a pool of 32 county award winners and a shortlist of Dublin restaurants.
Alas, none of the Laois entrants secured a national win, although all did their county proud by being nominated for such prestigious awards.
The 2014 Irish Restaurant Awards were organised in association with the Sunday Independent LIFE Magazine and The Restaurants Association of Ireland. The awards are the largest and most coveted awards in the Irish Restaurant Industry, and county winners were all announced at a number of regional awards in the last two months.
Chief executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, Adrian Cummins said: “Each year, the awards cast a spotlight on the brightest and best players on the Irish restaurant scene.”
