Coppers Portlaoise is a familiar landmark in the town centre.

It was formerly owned by Matthew Keegan where he successfully ran a bar/lounge with a carvery lunch and he also operated his funeral business from the backyard.

In 2007 Eamon Brady and David Power Partnership purchased Keegans. For a short period it remained as a bar. In 2008 planning permission was obtained and building commenced. Coppers Late Bar opened on 15 December 2008.

Patrons will remember the island bar in the main bar area. “We operated with no cover charge for five years. Unfortunately costs were continuously on the increase so in 2013 we decided to go for a complete refurb and a cover charge was introduced”, explains David.

Coppers has always been the place to be and has won numerous awards. Customers are from the local area and surrounding towns and villages. “

“We attract people from all over Ireland who stay in local hotels. We complement all our fellow publicans and clubs with the volume of customers that we attract,” maintains Eamon. What tends to happen is minibus/taxis pull into Portlaoise and people may have refreshments in the local pubs and then head for Coppers.

Coppers is a professionally run nightclub. “We have strict house rules but this is only for people’s safety and enjoyment. We attract a more mature age group and this creates a wonderful atmosphere. We employ Security Partners Ltd to implement our house rules and control our front door and all areas of the club,” adds David.

“Security Partners have been with us since 2009 and we have a good professional working relationship. Richie Shirley DJs provide the DJs and they provide the wide range of tunes that in turn contribute to the ambience and atmosphere.”

“We can cater for all types of functions or parties – big or small. Our party platters are very popular also, we have a choice of party offers, which include reserved areas, complimentary entry, comp shots, packages of food and bubbly. Our bar manager Barry McPhillips and Supervisor Andy Dowling and all the team will provide a top class service.

“We offer comfortable seating and two dance floors. Our smoking facilities are the best around and have won many awards. We have large, clean toilets which are staffed with cleaners and security. We have free Wi-Fi and accept all Debit and Credit cards. We have all types of wines and champagnes and cocktails are our speciality. We have our own take-away for customers that are puckish during their visit or when leaving.

“So you can enjoy the night get your food and straight into a waiting taxi outside.

We launched our Late, Live and Local on 17 January with an impressive list of celebrity guests,” says a justifiably proud David.

So every Friday night when you enter Coppers you will have a choice of either a top DJ in the club or in the Garden venue a top band playing.

Coppers are proud sponsors of the Laois Ladies senior football teams.
