Teagasc, in conjunction with Coillte and the Forest Service, DAFM, is organising two important demonstrations on wind blow clearance and forest restoration in the

Southeast and Southwest of Ireland.

The Southeast event will take place on: Tuesday 8 April in Mullinavat, Co Kilkenny

Both events will provide important guidance to forest owners whose plantations have suffered wind blow damage and will also be relevant to plantation owners who are

approaching or at the stage where forest thinning is an option.

The wind blow followed storm force winds on 12 February which reached violent storm force 11 for a time in areas of southern Ireland.

Early indications suggest that somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 hectares of both Coillte managed and privately owned forests, mainly concentrated in Munster and south Leinster, have been affected.

Teagasc in association with Coillte and the Forest Service, DAFM invites forest owners whose plantations have suffered wind blow damage and those with plantations approaching thinning stage to attend these important events. The demonstrations will visit storm affected forests.
