Portlaoise family business celebrates milestone serving Laois customers

One of the best-known family businesses in Portlaoise is celebrating a big milestone of providing stone products and services to customers in Laois and further afield.

Founded by Stradbally native Terry Swayne in October 1991, the Portlaoise Stone Centre is marking three and a half decades of stonework and memorial services.

The 35th anniversary falls on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, which for Terry, who is also company Managing Director, marks a proud milestone for himself, his family and the employees who have contributed to its success over the years.

The business has operated from several locations and is now based at Unit 3B, Clonminam Business Park, Portlaoise

Terry says family involvement remains central to its day-to-day operations. His wife and powerhouse, Jenny, runs the office, while Kevin, a Laois GAA senior footballer, and Trevor take on a range of responsibilities across office duties and hands-on stonework.

Daughter Hannah and eldest son Andrew also worked in the family business before pursuing different career paths. Terry says his father, Pat, and his brother, also Pat, have provided advice and support throughout the business’s journey.

Terry, who now lives in Portlaoise, reflects on the anniversary.

“Reaching 35 years in business is a great achievement and something we’re very proud of. Having my family involved makes it even more special. I’d like to thank all our customers for their support over the years,” he says.

Portlaoise Stone Centre supplies kitchen worktops, vanity units and custom-made stone products in a range of materials, including granite, marble, quartz and Irish limestone. The business also provides headstones, including granite and limestone memorials, alongside grave maintenance services, helping families honour and remember their loved ones.

Terry and his family extend their thanks to employees past and present, customers and everyone who has supported the business since 1991.

The MD adds that they look forward to continuing to serve customers from their Portlaoise premises.
