New Christmas Plaza Market and Fun Fair

Christmas in Laois features a new festive event this year in the heart of Portlaoise.

Laois County Council and the Laois food and drinks collective, Laois Taste, are joining forces to host the new event in December in the final run into Christmas Day beside County Hall at the Plaza.

The organisers say the event which will run from December 14 to 23, will feature food and drinks vendors, art and craft stalls, entertainment and games and lots more.

They want to get the word out to as many local groups and businesses as possible who would like to be a part of what they say will be a "grand celebration".

The council's Business Support Unit is inviting everyone to get involved.

"We are excited to announce the upcoming 2023 Christmas Plaza Market and Fun Fair, a festive and vibrant event.

"This event brings together a delightful mix of live music, a fun fair, food & drinks vendors, Santa's grotto, cake decorating, and storytelling, offering something for everyone".

"We invite you to express your interest in becoming a vendor at the upcoming 2023 Christmas Plaza Market and Fun Fair, a festive and family-friendly event that promises to be a highlight of the holiday season.

"By participating as a vendor, you'll have the opportunity to showcase your products or services to a diverse and engaged audience, and contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of this festive celebration," they say.

Simon Walton is the Council's Director of Services with responsibility for the county town.

"We are hopeful that the event will be a highlight of the holiday season and the Council is reaching out to local businesses and community groups, inviting them to participate as vendors/performers etc," he said.

"We look forward to your participation in making the Christmas Plaza Market & Fun Fair a resounding success," says the council.

The form is available HERE.

A Christmas market was held in previous years on Main Street Portlaoise in late November or December. Laois County Council has confirmed that that is not going ahead in 2023.
