Abbey Leix house and estate.
Christmas is once again in the air as Abbey Leix House prepares to throw open its gates for some festive cheer.
Tickets are now available for the Abbeyleix House and Farm, Christmas Market & Santa's Grotto on the grounds of Abbey Leix House on Saturday, December 9.
Abbeyleix House and Farm are putting on courtesy shuttle buses from two locations in Abbeyleix town on the day for what is being billed as a ‘festive extravaganza’ that will run from 12 noon to 8pm.
The event is returning to the grounds Abbey Leix House, the Laois home of Billionaire Stripe co-founder John Collison, after a successful Christmas fair on the grounds of the stately home in 2022.
The Limerick billionaire purchased the house and lands, which were formerly part of the DeVesic family estate, for an estimated €10 million or more in 2021. He subsequently purchased the derelict Millbrook House in Abbeyleix and reportedly plans to spend €6 million carrying out a complete renovation of the building in the grounds of the former estate.
This year’s event will have stalls with more than 50 local vendors selling a range of arts, crafts and food.
The courtesy Abbeyleix House and Farm shuttle buses will be available to transport attendees from either The Manor Hotel R32 VE24 or The South School R32 PP79 in Abbeyleix to the venue. There are a few disabled parking spots onsite, but these must be pre-booked. Anyone without a pre-booked spot is asked not to arrive by car as there are no additional parking places.
Organisers are encouraging locals to walk or cycle to the venue. Anyone who does so and arrives between 12 noon and 4pm will be entered into a draw for a voucher from Race Right Cycles in Portlaoise.
It is a ticketed event and all tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available for sale onsite. Tickets cost €10 for an adult or over 12 and €5 for children aged between 2 and 12.
Each ticket includes a complimentary drink and tasty delights, which are served at the Market's welcome booth.
Santa's Grotto is unfortunately already booked out but those still interested can contact alice@abbeyleixhouseanfarm.ie for the waiting list.

Ticket sales will close on Monday, December 4 at 5pm or once capacity is reached, whichever comes first.
