Cracking Christmas Laois events at Portlaoise Library

The busy and creative Laois Libraries staff at Portlaoise Library have lined up lots of Christmas events for local families to enjoy.

First and foremost there's a Santa letter writing and craft on Thursday, November 28 at 4pm!

"Join us for a special Letter to Santa Workshop with a festive story, followed by writing your Christmas letters to post in the Santa mail sack," say the Library team. Register at https://tinyurl.com/2yefx39v

There's a chance for adults to learn how to create a festive masterpiece at a Scandinavian wreath-making workshop on Saturday, November 30 at 12pm.

In this hands-on workshop, expert Aoife will guide you through crafting a beautiful, natural wreath to bring Nordic charm to your home this holiday season. All materials are provided, except foliage - just bring a small bag of your favourite greenery to personalize your wreath. Register at https://tinyurl.com/bdek9nhm

Aoife will also run a Christmas decorations workshop for children on Saturday, November 30 from 10:30 am.

"Designed for young creators, this hour-long workshop invites children to make their very own holiday decorations, perfect for bringing a little extra sparkle to your home," says the library.

The Library on the Lower Square Portlaoise is also hosting a Stories Songs with Helena Byrne and Santa Claus. A fun-filled show is promised on Saturday, December 7 at 2:30 pm. Register at https://tinyurl.com/2yefx39v

Children are also invited to come along on Saturday, December 14 at 12:30 pm for a festive Christmas storytime. MORE BELOW PICTURE.

Perfect for children aged 3-8 years, the staff promises a selection of joyful Christmas stories, and after the stories, children can get creative with some Christmas-themed colouring.

Meanwhile, the Library welcomes children to a screening of the holiday classic Elf on Thursday, December 19 at 4:30 pm at Portlaoise Library.

The library team has also organised two Christmas competitions for local children.

Children aged 6 to 9 years are invited to create a Christmas-themed drawing on an A4 page. Use colouring pencils or pastels and drop your artwork into Portlaoise Library or email a scanned copy to portlaoiselibrary@laoiscoco.ie.

The closing date is Monday, December 16.

The Library running a Christmas poetry competition for children aged 8 to 12 years. The want you to write a festive poem about Santa, his reindeer, or the magic of Christmas. "It’s up to you," say the staff.

Send your entries to Portlaoiselibrary@laoiscoco.ie by Monday, December 16 for a chance to share your holiday creativity.
