PICTURES: Portlaoise lights up for Christmas

Huge crowds turn out for switch on. Spot anyone you know?

Huge crowds turned out to watch the Christmas lights being officially turned on in Portlaoise on Friday evening, November 21 with Santa himself stopping by for the occasion. St. Peter & Paul’s Portlaoise Children's choir got the festivities underway with MC Jack Nolan entertaining throughout the evening. The event was organised by Downtown Portlaoise with support from Laois County Council and Laois Partnership. This is a very important event for Portlaoise town at Christmas time. It shows how the town can work together as a community to deliver this event and help to kickstart the festive season. Downtown Portlaoise is a voluntary organisation and I wish to thank all my committee for their work in the build up to this exciting evening," said Andrew Shaw, Chairperson of Downtown Portlaoise. Photographer Alf Harvey was there for the Leinster Express/Laois Live and captured these beautiful shots. Spot anyone you know?
