Bosco is celebrating 40 years in showbusiness at the Dunamaise

Let the magic of Christmas begin at Dunamaise Arts Centre with an incredible line up of events to warm the hearts and bring the festive spirit to the people of Laois.
The magical events will include Ballet Ireland’s wonderful The Nutcracker; Phil Coulter, Vocalese, ABBA Forever and many more events to celebrate the New Year including Jack L, Sharon Shannon, Bosco, The Fureys and Portlaoise Panto Group’s Sleeping Beauty to name but a few.

Ballet Ireland will start the Christmas festivities off at Dunamaise with two performances of The Nutcracker on 5 and 6 November.
Already sold out, these will be two spectacular shows featuring an international cast of world-class dancers with glittering costumes and Tchaikovsky’s beloved and sumptuous score.
For those disappointed not to get Ballet tickets, there are lots more events to look forward to at Dunamaise.

The National Theatre Live from London will present Antony & Cleopatra on Thursday 6 December at 7pm. Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo play Shakespeare’s famous fated couple in his great tragedy of politics, passion and power. This will be an amazing experience and not to be missed! Tickets €15/€12.

Local group Vocalese, featuring the beautiful voices of Nuala Kelly, Georgina Cathcart and Vivienne Graham will warm everyone up for the festive spirit in their Winter, Fire and Snow show on Friday 7 December.
Enjoy their exquisite vocal harmonies as they perform a beautiful selection of seasonal songs and some old favourites from their vast repertoire.

Expect a laugh a minute at the hilarious theatre show Weighing In on Friday 14 December starring Isobel Mahon (Glenroe, The Clinic) and Rose Henderson (Fair City, Father Ted).
A fast paced comedy about life, love and dieting - and how we all need to adjust the scales to find the right balance, this will be make a fabulous night out for Christmas. Tickets €18/€16.

One of Ireland’s greatest treasures Red Hurley will return to Portlaoise on Saturday 15 December.
A great nights entertainment is promised as Red returns to the Dunamaise stage, celebrating over 40 years in show business.
Red has a great set list including his many chart hits, while also interpreting beautiful and moving performances of inspirational classics such as ‘How Great Thou Art' and 'Amazing Grace' and of course some songs from the big shows. Tickets €27.50/€25.

World renowned songwriter, producer and recording artist Phil Coulter will return for one night only on Sunday 16 December. With limited availability remaining for this show, early booking is advised. Tickets €27.50/€25.

Families are in for a real treat at Dunamaise this Christmas with Talisman Theatre who present Elfie Saves Christmas for schools and families on Saturday 15, Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 December and now, due to phenomenal demand, an extra show has been added on Sunday 16 December.
When Santa’s favourite elf who meets some mischievous Goblins creates a totally tinsel adventure that is sure to melt your heart.! A show full of laughter, fun and audience participation, ideal for ages 3+ . Tickets €13.50/€12.50/Group & Family Rate €10.

Come and enjoy the festive family favourite Home Alone on Saturday 22 December at 2pm
Students of Portlaoise’s Scoil Chríost Rí take to the stage from Tuesday 11 to Thursday 13 December for their presentation of Disney’s High School Musical. Directed by Karen Hackett and choreography by Lea Carroll, there’s no doubt that the Transition Year class of 2018/19 will bring you a fantastic musical production once again! Tickets are priced €12/€10/€4(group rate for matinees only).

Award winning broadcaster and documentary maker Ann Marie Kelly will premiere her second film Walking Back To My Heart on Monday 17 December at 7pm. Shot over the course of 3 years, the film focusses on stories from the past and looks to re-imagine the town’s future through the eyes of a group of 12 children led on a walk around the heart of Portlaoise by renowned local poet and author Pat Boran.

The endearing film It’s a Wonderful Life starring James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore is a true masterpiece in cinema and warms the hearts of all who see it year in, year out since it first hit the screens 70 years ago in 1947.
With two screenings of this wonderful film on Wednesday 19 at 11am and 8pm, what better way to prepare for Christmas than watching this beauty on the big screen? Festive refreshments will follow each screening. Tickets from €5.

ABBA FOREVER presents The Christmas Show on Thursday 20 December and is a real excuse for a party this Christmas! Expect a dazzling, fantastic performance by the finest ABBA voices at the best party in town, however tickets are now sold out for this fantastic show!
Our National treasure, the great Jack L, returns for another knock-out show Northern Lights-Songs for the Winter Solstice on Friday 4 January.
Jack promises to deliver a spectacular event, introducing his audience to great new characters and intriguing creations from his vivid imagination - and none more vivid than himself!
His successful USA tour last year earned him awards for ‘The Judges Pick Best Act’ and the Press award ‘Best Performance of the Festival’ at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in LA. Tickets are priced €25/€23 but book early!
Shows to look forward to following the Christmas period will include legends of Irish music and song Sharon Shannon on Friday 11 January and the inimitable Fureys, who have been entertaining audiences for over 30 years on 1 February.

Bosco will celebrate 40 years in show business on Saturday 5 January in Bosco’s Garden and Snow White and Portlaoise Panto Group’s Sleeping Beauty from 19 to 26 January 2019.
The Gallery at Dunamaise also features its annual Open Exhibition featuring selected artists by guest curator Claire Behan until 5 January.

Showcasing a great breadth and depth of artistic expression by emerging and established artists, Laois Arts Office and Dunamaise Arts Centre will award a month long residency at Laois Arthouse in Stradbally to one of the selected artists.
To really make a Christmas night of your experience at Dunamaise, pre-theatre menus are available - choose from Caffe Latte within the arts centre itself and Bloom restaurant, directly opposite the arts centre on Main Street for a wonderful selection of dishes.
