Portlaoise District Court
A probation report was ordered for a man who told gardai to f**k off and mind their own business.
Bartlomiej Jochym, 41, of 6 Lalor Way, Faigreen, Portlaoise was arrested by gardai on the Mountmellick Road on December 14.
Sergeant JJ Kirby said gardai approached the defendant as he was “walking in front of traffic” at 12.30pm in the day.
“He told the guards to f**k off and mind their own business,” Sgt Kirby explained. He said the defendant has four previous convictions.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client has not been in trouble in six and a half years and was admitting to being abusive on the day.
“He wishes to apologise to gardai,” she said.
She said the man suffers with his mental health and has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. She said her client, who is a metal worker, was now seeking help.
“He understands that he can’t drink while on prescribed medication,” she told the court.
Ms Fitzpatrick said her client had brought €200 to court and was pleading guilty on his first appearance.
“I would like to see some evidence that treatment is being availed of,” Judge Andrew Cody said.
He put the case back to July 6 for a probation report and asked that the defendant engage constructively with the probation services.
