Man had heroin for own use at Laois address

A probation report has been ordered for a man who had heroin at his address. 

Sam Touhy, 34, of 69 Corrig Glen, Station Road, Portarlington admitted having heroin at his property on August 19 last. 

Sergeant JJ Kirby said  gardai discovered heroin valued at €280 during a search of the property on the date in question. He said the defendant, who has 17 previous convictions, made full admissions. 

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client had gone on a methadone course and had been heroin free for a year but had unfortunately relapsed at the time of the offence. He said the man is back on methadone and “needs to get back on track”. 

Judge Andrew Cody ordered a probation and welfare report and adjourned the matter until July 6.
