An Offaly woman who initially acted as a peace maker in a situation later came back with a hurley Laois Offaly's district court judge was told.
On January 15, 2022, Eileen Flanagan, The Granaries, Crank Road, Banagher, was leaving a pub on Main Street, Banagher. It was during Covid and she took some offence at the way the door was being closed behind them.
Her boyfriend pulled at the door and an altercation took place. Ms Flanagan became involved.
She was intoxicated. She left for seven minutes but came back with a hurley.
Ms Flanagan had no previous convictions. Her solicitor Patrick Martin said she had taken umbrage.
She came to court at the earliest opportunity.
The defendant is no longer in a relationship with the person she was with on the night. She has two children and doesn't have any support and is not working at the moment. This was totally out of character for her, said Mr Martin.
Judge Andrew Cody imposed a fine of €200 with six months to pay.
He took the offence of carrying a hurley into consideration. For her part in the affray he fined her €200.
