Jail for stealing bed linen in Portlaoise

REVEALED: Number of phones, hooch, drugs and weapons seized at Midlands prisons

A prison sentence was handed down to a man who stole bed linen in Portlaoise.

PJ O’Shea, 30, of 20 O’Moore Place, Portlaoise appeared at Portlaoise District Court by videolink.

He admitted stealing €100 of bed linen from JYSK in Portlaoise on January 11 last.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant had gone into the store and left without payment. The  property wasn’t recovered. He said the man has 82 previous convictions.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client has significant mental health difficulties.

“His family are trying their best for him,” he said.

He said the man was probably anxious to get to the Midlands Prison so his family could engage with him.

Judge Andrew Cody sentenced the man to three months in prison in relation to the theft.
