Accused of smashing Garda station window

Alleged pitchfork attack in Monasterevin land dispute

A man was in court accused of smashing a garda station window before stealing from its boiler room.

Glenn O’Niell, 23, of Apartment 1, Gort na Noir, Abbeyleix is accused of criminal damage at Abbeyleix Garda Station on April 16 last. He is also charged with stealing a four grain fork from the garda station. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said it is alleged that at 3am on the date in question the man threw a concrete block through the front window of the Garda Station. The defendant then allegedly went to a boiler room at the rear of the station and stole a four grain fork, he added.  

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the man on bail to appear before Portlaoise District Court again on April 13.
