Man pronounced dead in Naas hospital
A man has died in hospital in Kildare with a second man in custody arising from an incident in which the deceased is understood to have suffered serious injuries.
In an update to a previous appeal Garda HQ says the man, aged in his 40s, who was discovered with serious injuries at approximately 10:30am on Wednesday, March 8 outside a residence in the Piercetown area of Newbridge, has been pronounced dead at Naas General Hospital.
Gardaí say the office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
They say an incident room has been established at Newbridge Garda Station and an investigation is continuing under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer.
A statement added that the man in his 30s who was arrested as part of this investigation was detained at Newbridge Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The man was subsequently released without charge on Friday evening. Gardaí said a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
