Stole from chemist in Portlaoise

Kildare cocaine dealer jailed at Portlaoise court

Portlaoise District Court

A probation report was ordered for a woman who stole almost €2,000 worth of goods from a chemist in Portlaoise.

Helen Connors, 19, of 1 Kiltalown, Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin 24 admitted taking the goods.

She was captured on CCTV stealing items valued at €1,043.98 from Boots in Laois Shopping Centre,  Portlaoise at 10.20am on January 27 last. One item valued at €97 was recovered.

On July 17, 2021 she stole perfume and cosmetics valued at €951. On that occasion all of the items were recovered all though some were opened and no longer saleable. She made full admissions and has no previous convictions, said Sgt Kirby.

Solicitor Aonghus McCarthy said his client was 17 at the time of the first offence and was in “poor company” on the date in question.

He described her as a “vulnerable young lady” who had a difficult upbringing.

Judge Andrew Cody said that in light of her plea and lack of previous convictions he would order a probation and welfare report. He remanded her on bail with conditions which included to remain sober and stay out of Portlaoise save for court appearances.

She is due before Portlaoise District Court again on July 6.
