Man in court accused of assault at Portarlington GAA club

A man has appeared in court accused of assault at a GAA club in Laois. 

Evin Bennett, 53, with an address at Ship House, Portlaoise Road, Portarlington is accused of assault at Portarlington GAA Club on May 30 last. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said there is a co-accused in the case. 

“It is a linked case involving a juvenile,” he told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court. 

Sgt Kirby said the State Solicitor in Tipperary was looking after the case. 

Judge Andrew Cody asked if there was need for disclosure in relation to the matter. 

“Yes and there is CCTV footage as well,” said Solicitor Matthew Kearney. 

Judge Cody ordered disclosure within four weeks and he remanded the case to Portlaoise District Court on June 16 for mention.
